Alpha

Over 15 million worldwide have now attended an Alpha course run in tens of thousands of churches of all denominations across the world.

Alpha is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over either ten or seven thought-provoking weekly sessions (depending on which course is being offered), with a weekend away.

Have you ever wondered about some of the central questions of life? Things like:
  • What is the point of life?
  • What about suffering and evil?
  • How do we deal with guilt?
Maybe you're interested in sharing your thoughts or hearing the views of others who have similar questions. If so, then we invite you to consider participating in an Alpha course.  It's a great way to help you explore and search for the meaning to life as we grapple with the issues of life. Some of the topics discussed are:
  • Who is Jesus?
  • Does God really heal people today?
  • How does God guide us?
  • What about the Holy Spirit?
  • Why and how should I pray?
  • Do all people go to heaven?

How does Alpha work?

It is an experience which takes place over 7 weeks. Sessions are held on Wednesday evenings and begin with a light meal. A video presentation is used to promote discussion within small groups on various questions, including those mentioned above.

During the course there is also a weekend away. For many people this has been a life changing experience.

Alpha can be summed up as follows:
  • Anyone interested in finding out more about the Christian faith. People of all aged are welcome.
  • Learning and laughter. It is possible to learn about the Christian faith and have fun at the same time.
  • People meeting together. An opportunity to get to know each other and to make new friends.
  • Helping one another. The small groups give you a chance to discuss issues raised in the talks and the video clips.
  • Ask anything. Alpha is a place where no question is regarded as too simple or too hostile.
Alpha is a concept that originated at Holy Trinity Church, Brompton in the UK. It has since experienced amazing growth such that there are now thousands of courses run each year in countries all over the world, through many different Christian denominations.

When is Alpha available at TTG Lutheran?

We normally run the Alpha course during term two or three of the school year.
